Researchers in the developing field of cognitive epidemiology have been conducting studies to understand if intelligence levels have an impact on longevity.  The answer appears to be yes.  Questions remain as to why and potential influencing factors.  Socioeconomic status has an impact on both intelligence and longevity and may be a cause and a result.  Higher intelligence is shown to provide for higher incomes as wells as better decisions regarding health.   Another factor is genetics and the relationship between intelligence and health.  These studies may provide clues to health care professionals on how to better treat patients.
